AA-1 Yankee

The original 108-hp two-seater that started the Grumman-American line. Built by American Aviation 1969–1971. The hot rod of the fleet.

AA-1 Yankee

The AA-1 Yankee was Jim Bede's design brought to production by American Aviation in Cleveland, Ohio. A two-seat, low-wing, fixed-gear aircraft powered by the Lycoming O-235-C2C producing 108 hp. Known for its fighter-like handling, fast roll rate, and — among owners — for running hot with almost no cabin ventilation. The original wing airfoil gave the Yankee its distinctive handling characteristics but was later changed for the AA-1A Trainer to improve docility. Most flew with the canopy cracked open, even in winter.
